January 26th, 2009

Offshore work day #4
Today conditions in the Reserve were beautiful. Two volunteers came out to help clean the reef; a local Rincóeño Ivan Soto, and Emily Fisher a dive master working with Taino Divers. After tow-boarding for a while we decided play time was over and got to work. We pulled up 10 cinderblocks, 8 tires, an old piece of a boat (metal), and two bags full of clothing, stuffed animals, lost dive gear (mask, snorkel, fin), plastic bottles, and more. Primary methods used to extract the debris were free diving and scuba. Below are photos from the day on the water.
Contact Wess Merten at 401-258-4627 or siestasyolas6@aol.com for more information on helping out in this community coral reef restoration and marine debris removal effort.
